One of the hardest things my clients struggle with is the fact that majority of them are experiencing extreme hearing loss. Aging has its own challenges especially with learning how to take ownership in their new health diagnosis. Each diagnosis requires diet changes, more and more medications, increased safety awareness in the home, the list goes on and on. There is so much education needed in each of these categories, can you imagine what it feels like to not be able to hear the education to even take ownership? Most seniors want to learn how to cope with their diagnosis and remain independent in managing them as long as possible. Next time we healthcare providers or caregivers get frustrated, I encourage us all to think about how frustrating it is to be in their shoes.
